FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD. (Tuesday, October 25, 2022) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced that starting this week, City residents will begin to see a 25 percent discount reflected on their water bills.

Mayor Scott first announced the discount following the City's boil water advisory in early September to compensate residents for being without water and to help cover increased usage costs during the flushing process.

"We know the boil water advisory placed an undue burden on our residents. I first made this commitment because I firmly believe it is our role as City leaders to leverage our authority to help residents in their time of need and today we are fulfilling that promise," said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. "I want to thank the Department of Public Works for implementing this directive in a timely fashion and for understanding the importance of supporting our communities."

Residential customers will begin to see the 25 percent water bill discount applied to account charges immediately following the boil water advisory event. The discount will cover charges for the entire September monthly bill, except for the five-dollar Bay Restoration fee passed onto the state of Maryland and reflected under the line item "adjustments/fees" on residential bills. To compare the discounted amount, reference your September monthly bill which can also be accessed online at https://waterbillportal.baltimorecity.gov.

"Since Mayor Brandon Scott announced the 25 percent discount Baltimore Department of Public Works (DPW) staff have worked diligently to implement the discount for residential customers through DPW's billing system," said Department of Public Works Director Jason W. Mitchell, Ed.D. "We thank the Baltimore community for their assistance in flushing the water system immediately following the lift of the boil water advisory and for their patience in applying the 25 percent water bill discount to nearly 200,000 eligible accounts."

Discounts will be applied exclusively to all Baltimore City accounts. All discounts should be reflected by the end of November. If customers do not see the discount on their billing statements, they should contact DPW at (410) 396-5398 or via email at dpw.billing@baltimorecity.gov.
