FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD. (Saturday, February 18, 2023) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott released the following statement in response to the arrest made in the Edmondson Westside Shopping Center shooting that took place on January 4, 2023.

"There is no amount of justice that will bring Deonta back to his family. Over a month later, the same feelings of hurt, anguish, and sorrow for the families who lost their loved ones in the January 4 shooting are still with me. My hope is that the great investigative work done by the Baltimore Police Department will bring semblance of closure. But there are no winners here. Somewhere down the line, we failed these young people as a community.

My thoughts and prayers go out to their families and the community, and it is my continued mission to ensure that our children are safe from violence. But that work must be done by all of us, not just some of us with others sitting on the sidelines, refusing to get involved."
