In Recently Released U.S. Department of Commerce Data, Baltimore Found to Be Among The Fastest Growing Large Economies in the U.S.

BALTIMORE, MD (Saturday, December 9, 2023) – Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott released the following statement in response to U.S. Department of Commerce data that showed Baltimore City's economy is one of the fastest growing in the state of Maryland and has the 8th fastest growing GDP in the country among counties with at least $50 billion in GDP in 2022.

"The GDP numbers released this week are proof of Baltimore's post-pandemic renaissance. Under my administration, we have made great strides to spur economic growth by attracting new businesses and developments, while also investing in our human capital through our workforce development initiatives like YouthWorks, HireUp, and TrainUp -- as well as supporting small, minority-owned businesses through Downtown BOOST and BDC's Small Business Assistance Program.

"I firmly believe that a stronger economy means a better Baltimore and positively impacts everything from public safety outcomes to neighborhood quality-of-life. Baltimore has my word that we will continue to ensure that all communities are able to participate in our growing economy in line with my administration's commitment to equitable development."
