BALTIMORE, MD. (Monday, May 1, 2023) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced the appointment of Mujahid Muhammad to the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners. A licensed master social worker and a mental health clinician with 20 years of leadership experience and over 10 years of public service, Mr. Muhammad will be a huge asset to the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners.

"I am thrilled to have Mujahid Muhammed join our Board of School Commissioners. Mr. Muhammad has a wealth of experience in leadership, social work, mental health and public service and a heart for helping our youth," said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. "I am confident that his background and his skills will be an asset to this Board."

As a behavioral healthcare executive, Mr. Muhammad is an expert in strategic leadership and executing financial best practices, which is evident in his accomplishments as chief executive officer at KEYS Enterprises, clinical therapist at the University of Maryland, and as a therapeutic crisis and trauma trainer at Catholic Charities.

As Chief Executive Officer for KEYS Enterprises he increased donations by $2.5 million in 2022 and remains "a person-centered advocate for community change" while ensuring future leaders of the City of Baltimore receive the support they need to thrive.

"Recognizing that every person has unique circumstances, equity provides the precise program-centered resources and opportunities required to achieve equitable outcome measures." said Mujahid Muhammad. "The intensity of our efforts must match the intensity of our challenges."

Mr. Muhammad has mentored hundreds of children, provided clinical treatment, partnered with multiple schools, and brought programming to communities throughout Maryland. His commitment to the success of young people in the City of Baltimore includes not only academics as a priority but also community engagement and mental health services, making him a vital contributor to the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners.

The School Board is responsible for raising the level of academic achievement of the more than 75,000 students enrolled in Baltimore City Public Schools, and for improving the management and administration of the city's public-school system. The Mayor appoints commissioners from candidate pools recommended by a community panel, the final step in a larger application process led by the Mayor's Office of Children & Family Success.
