BALTIMORE, MD. (Thursday, August 4, 2022) — Baltimore was hit by a heavy thunderstorm this evening. Northeast Baltimore saw 2'' to 4'' of rain and has experienced significant power outages relative to the rest of the city.

Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) is reporting around 314 power outages with over 20,000 customers impacted across Baltimore. 

The City is reporting 65 trees down, 18 of which are blocking roads, and multiple reports of cars partially submerged in water. The Department of Recreation and Parks's Forestry Division is bringing in additional crews to help clear roadways.

The Office of Emergency Management is working with the National Weather Service and BGE to restore traffic flow and electricity to affected areas. 

Similar storms are expected to hit Baltimore tomorrow afternoon going into the evening. 

"I want to thank our emergency responders and partners at BGE and the National Weather Service for conducting an effective coordinated response to this evening's storm, said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. "Residents should stay inside and keep away from downed power lines. Residents can call 3-1-1 to report downed trees and BGE at 877.778.2222 to report an outage or downed power line."
